Vertical Route is the only Via Ferrata in Bolivia and it’s the highest in the world. It’s located in one of the most impressive routes in the North of Bolivia in the NorthYungas region of La Paz , at an altitude of 3,000 metres above sea level. It’s managed by the communities of San Juan de la Miel and Villa Ascensión.It’s an important source of work that helps to improve the quality of life for families in this community.
This circuit was introduced in 2010 offering an alternative boost to the development of these communities in the Yungas region of La Paz, specifically for San Juan de la Miel and Villa Ascension. It helps to generate income that affects positively the wellbeing of people in the community. It promotes community organization, strengthening ties within the community, and helps to value conservation making the most of viable ,sustainable resources and natural beauty spots, aswell as cultural patrimony .
The main objective of Vertical Route is to contribute to local community development through ecotourism projects, by making the most of the community’s existing potential . All the guides working for Vertical Route are part of the community, and all the services offered provide work opportunities for local families and thus improving the quality of life in the community.
10 years old is the minimum age, as long as the child is accompanied by their parents or has their permission.
A change of clothing including good shoes, (trainers or hiking boots but no sandals). Water proofs in case of rain , sunscreen and insect repellent.
A harness, helmet, double safety belt, carabiners, and all the extra elements used in a ‘via ferrata’. All necessary equipment is supplied by Vertical Route.
7:30 Leave La Paz for Chuspipata (Eco Via) Half way down the road to Coroico
9:30 Arrival at the circuit with a briefing on how to use the equipment
10:00 Start of the circuit.
It can take 3 to 4 hours to complete the whole circuit, depending on the speed of the group.
Return to La Paz varies between 16:00 and 17:00 hours.
All of our equipment, from the cables, harnesses, pulleys and helmets are certified by widely recognized international institutions, Every piece of equipment has a certification number and necessary resistance for weight limits.
Engineers have studied the technical viability of all our projects ,and they supervised the correct installation of all our infrastructure.
All of our staff have received high levels of safety training for international standards. Every guide that works for ‘Via Ferrata’ has to undergo a training programme that lasts between 3 and 6 months under the supervision of certified guides.
